More choice for motorists – Coventry leads the way

From early August, Coventry City Council has expanded its phone parking service to offer multiple solutions across the City.

For motorists, this means they can choose how they pay for parking, based on preferences including price, app functionality and in future, services like EV charging.

RingGo recently attracted almost 4,000 votes on social media polls, from supportive motorists expressing their desire to choose from multiple apps. On LinkedIn, 98 percent favoured nationwide adoption, while 92 percent of Twitter voters wanted it too.

“There is a clear desire for greater choice and flexibility in parking,” said Peter O’Driscoll, Managing Director of RingGo. “Motorists want a simpler cashless experience. We’ve had reports of drivers with 16 parking apps. We need other local authorities to follow Coventry City Council’s lead to make our cities more liveable.”

The service is being delivered via the National Parking Platform (NPP): a Department for Transport funded initiative which aims to deliver better parking and mobility services. Coventry City Council is the fourth Council to use this platform across the UK. Wider adoption of the NPP will enable motorists to use their favourite app wherever they go.
